How to fix iPhone 12 5G issues? If you have just obtained your iPhone 12 and found that after having it set up, 5G is not available, there are several variables to check out to try and fix what’s going on. Your wireless plan, SIM card, iOS settings, and more are included. If your iPhone 12’s 5G is not working, let’s delve into what to do.
As far as iOS 14 settings go with Smart Data mode, the entire iPhone 12 lineup has 5G support (including mmWave on all US models) and 5G is allowed by default (can be managed manually too). If you’ve been set up and enabled with your carrier, however and the 5G of your iPhone 12 doesn’t fit and you think you should be, here’s what to search next.
It’s good to double-check what you have to confirm that it provides 5G coverage, even though you believe you have an up-to-date package that includes 5G. Verizon, for instance, has a tricky situation where there are no different names or different rates for the new plans, but certain consumers need to make a change to get 5G coverage.
In the meantime, AT&T warns clients that when signing into their accounts, they will also need to update their plans.
You should not have a problem with your SIM card if you have purchased your iPhone 12 from your carrier or with Apple, including carrier activation.
But you might need to get a new one or call your carrier to ask about getting your current SIM upgraded to support 5G, particularly if you purchased a SIM-free model and are using your old SIM.

In a document, Apple states that if you go to Settings > Cellular > Cellular Data Options and do not see a screen like a screenshot below, try turning Airplane Mode on and then turning it off. If the 5G of your iPhone 12 either does not operate or does not show up in the settings, contact your carrier.
Apple shares in the same support document above that if you’re using Dual SIM mode with an iPhone 12, both lines will turn back to 4G LTE.
“One caveat is, “5G data is allowed in China by using two active lines on the line that uses cellular data in Dual SIM model. In China, 5G Standalone is not available while using Dual SIM with 5G.
Coverage by 5G carrier
Notice that the coverage maps of the major US carriers include both 4G and 5G, so you will need to pay careful attention to the colored legend and zoom in as close as possible for the most precise picture.
