The personal safety app allows users to share contacts and potentially emergency services with emergency information.
With the personal protection app, you can share your location with an emergency contact in real-time. This is beneficial if you are in a dangerous situation and want to keep someone updated at all times on where you are. This may be useful for early morning runs or for walking home late at night.
When you are put in an unpredictable situation, you can also set up a time for your phone to check in on you. If after check-in, the app has not received a response, then emergency sharing will start automatically.
Car crash detection is also included in the personal safety app. If car crash detection is allowed, this helps your phone to detect if you’ve been in a serious car crash. Your phone will vibrate loudly, trying to check whether you’re all right or if you need help. You may opt to call the emergency services or not call them.
Your phone will turn on the speakerphone and try to contact emergency services if you do not answer. It will tell them that there has been an accident and share your approximate location. If you are able to do so you will be able to communicate over the automated message.
Only Google Pixel 3, 4, and 5 are available with this feature.
Go to Location in Settings to turn on this feature, and turn on “Emergency Location Service” under Advanced.
With the Emergency Location Service (ELS), if it is enabled in your area, your system will automatically transmit your location to emergency responders when you dial an emergency number.
