Failed to Receive IP Address: This common error can have a number of causes. When you’re going to connect to a Wi-Fi network or use the web on your phone, the last thing you want to see on your Android phone is “Failed to Obtain IP Address.”

This error normally occurs when you try to link to any Wi-Fi network, including your own home network. What this means is that the router in charge of the network will give your Android device an IP address.

Failed to Receive IP Address prevents you from accessing the internet on that network, as well as all other network services such as printers, wireless screens, or streaming devices.

The Reason for the Android Error Failed to Obtain IP Address

When you try to connect to a network on your Android device, you can receive this error for a variety of reasons. A router problem is the most common cause of the error. Either your computer was deliberately blocked, or your link is down due to a router problem.

It’s also likely that the network hardware or software on your Android is broken or corrupt. To troubleshoot, go through the steps below, beginning with the most possible triggers and working your way down to the least likely cause.

How to Solve the problem?

Since the router is typically the source of this error, troubleshooting should begin there. After you’ve decided that the router isn’t the problem, you can concentrate on troubleshooting your Android computer.

1. If you’re using someone else’s network, request that the MAC filter for your device be removed. They can also make sure no parental controls have been set up to restrict your phone from accessing the internet. If you own the network and router, log in as an administrator to your router and make sure all of those features are disabled for your Android phone.

2. Check to see if your router’s built-in firewall is causing problems. If you’re not the only one getting the “Failed to Obtain IP Address” error, it’s possible that the wireless router’s built-in firewall was recently activated or modified. It’s also likely that the firewall program has malfunctioned. Check to see if the router firewall is enabled, and if so, disable it to see if the error is resolved.

3. Modify the network encryption on your router. If your router is set to use AES or TKIP encryption, be aware that these encryption styles have been known to trigger issues with some devices. Changing the network encryption to WPA2-PSK usually fixes the issue.

4. Switch on the router. If everything on the router appears to be in working order, restarting it will re-initialize the internal program and clear any possible cache issues. If rebooting doesn’t fix the problem and several people are still having trouble connecting to the wireless network, it’s time to reset the router.

5. Check to see if the issue is your Android phone. If you’ve tried all of the router options above and your Android device is still displaying the Failed to Obtain IP Address error, it’s time to start looking into troubleshooting it. The first thing you can do is push your Android to forget its network link, which will reset it. After that, you can link your Android device to the Wi-Fi network again. You’ll need to enter the network password because this is the “first time” you’re connecting to the network, according to your device.

6. Delete the cache for Google Play Services. Google Play services that run in the background on your Android device have been known to cause network problems on occasion. This may be due to overuse of network bandwidth as the services update all of your phone’s software at the same time, but no one knows why these services sometimes cause network problems. Most Google Play Store errors can be resolved with the same fixes that will repair this IP configuration issue.

7. Investigate to see if your router is blocking the IP address of your client. A wireless router can, for no apparent reason, begin blocking the IP addresses of devices on the network. If the router isn’t specifically programmed to block your computer, you may be able to fix the problem by setting your Android to use a static IP on the network.

8. Switch on Airplane mode, wait a minute, and then turn it off. Switch off Wi-Fi and check that your phone can connect to the Internet through cellular data. If that works, look for a nearby Wi-Fi hotspot and try connecting to that network. If you can connect to the internet, you know the problem isn’t with your phone. It’s because of the network.

9. If this problem occurs on your home network, you can have no choice but to factory reset your Android. If you’re trying to use someone else’s network for a limited period of time, a less drastic alternative is to use your mobile data for internet connectivity while you’re at it.

There you have Failed to Receive IP Address issues has been fixed!
