According to experts, the gap between flagship and mid-range smartphones is rapidly decreasing, and in the future, phone specs may become more flexible, similar to Computers.

The Snapdragon 778G 5G chipset was recently announced by Qualcomm. The latest smartphone, like the company’s high-end Snapdragon 888, brings more video capture functionality, AI capabilities, and improved performance to premium mid-range devices.

It’s not the first chipset from Qualcomm to fill the gap between mid-range smartphones and flagships, but it’s certainly one of the most prominent. Qualcomm’s Snapdragon 888 was used in many of last year’s most powerful Android phones.

The more costly chipset has become a standard in Samsung’s flagship smartphones, providing significant performance improvements over other mid-range chips.

The 778G 5G is noteworthy, however, because it introduces a few of the high-end chip’s AI-based features to devices in the mid-range price range. As a result, more consumers would have access to such features than ever before.

Support for cameras with large sensors, such as Xiaomi’s Mi 11 Ultra, is one of this advanced functionality. The 778G 5G also adds three image-signal processors to the devices it will be mounted in, which is a common feature in 888 phones. Samsung used this capability to build the Director’s View on the S21 models, which allows users to capture content more easily.

Many people have started to depend on their smartphones to capture photographs and videos of significant life events, so it’s interesting to see Qualcomm add the same features to the more accessible hardware.

A more powerful GPU for mobile gaming, improved noise reduction in video conferencing, and support for both mmWave and sub-6GHz 5G will all be included in the hardware. Also, mmWave 5G in smartphones is still being rolled out, and many of the more affordable devices only support 5G at sub-6GHz.

Manufacturers must not limit the number of 5G connections available to customers as 5G continues to roll out. The inclusion of mmWave 5G would make it easier for phone companies to provide it.

The Future

Bridging the gap between mid-range and flagship device processors has other advantages.

Manufacturers can ensure that consumers get access to the latest tech and functionality, regardless of how much they are willing or able to spend on their phone, by providing an equal value between flagship and premium mid-range devices.

This gives consumers more control by ensuring that they are not forced to purchase the most expensive phone since they are concerned about phones not providing what they need on smartphones.

Also, it aids in the prevention of devices and other technical problems. Since there are so many different types of processors, it’s more difficult to optimize the output of apps and software.

Let’s pretend Qualcomm and other system-on-chip makers will make mid-range processors work as well as flagship models. They would be able to reduce the complexity of developing applications in this situation. As a result, the number of apps available will increase, giving more users access to tools that will operate more efficiently.
