Ring Vs ADT: Overall Findings

ADT
1. A conventional safety company with a long history in the field.
2. Installed professionally.
3. For the duration of the contract, 24/7 monitoring is standard.
4. Installation charge ($99-$199), but the monthly contract includes equipment.

Ring
1. Internet-first company which is a relative newcomer (owned by Amazon).
2. Self-install/DIY.
3. Optional tracking from month to month, no long-term contract.
4. Without DIY installation costs, equipment starts at about $99.

ADT is a professionally installed and managed service where Ring is more of a DIY solution (although professional monitoring is provided by Ring). And the monitoring has significant variations. ADT includes a contract that typically lasts around three years when a contract is not required by Ring, and you can pay for monitoring month-to-month, but you are encouraged to pay around the year.

Installation: The Do-It-Yourselfer ring is fantastic

ADT
1. Needs professional installation.
2. Base setup with additional ad-hoc possibilities.
3. Required installation cost, but no upfront equipment expenses.

Ring
1. Installing DIY. In both wired and wireless models included.
2. Ad-hoc method, which allows you to add only the parts you want.
3. Up-front expense is higher.

ADT is the alternative that provides this if you are looking for a hands-off version of a security system. Security professionals will come into your home and install your device for a one-time installation fee, set it up, and you are done. Engaged Security. A standard kit containing the digital keypad, window and door contacts, a motion detector as well as a backup battery, and a wireless keychain remote is included with most ADT systems. Additional pieces you want can be added, including more contacts, cameras, and even a camera with a doorbell.

One benefit of ADT is that it provides smart home features that are more advanced. Smart lighting, for example, works with ADT, ensuring you don’t have to go home to a dark building.

If you’re something of a DIY guy, then it’s worth considering Ring. All the different elements of the Ring system are self-installing, and they are easy to put in place even for inexperienced. With the base station, keypad, window and door contacts, and a motion sensor, as well as a range extender, the standard ring system comes with. You can also choose some other equipment packages as well as ad-hoc equipment, such as a doorbell camera, more contacts, or you can add indoor and outdoor cameras if you like.

Ring‘s benefit (and disadvantage) is that you can use a wireless device, which means installation is less invasive, so Ring makes a good option that goes with you when you move whether you live in an apartment or rental property where a hard installation is an issue.

Options for Camera: Ring Takes This Section

ADT
1. Small range of cameras and doorbells for recording.
2. Better vision at night.
3. 720p and 1080p HD cameras are also available.

Ring
1. It provides different models of all cameras, including many models of the doorbell camera.
2. Great vision at night.
3. 720p and 1080p HD cameras are also available.

You might be disappointed with the ADT cameras if cameras are your primary concern. ADT offers both indoor and outdoor cameras and a doorbell camera, but the models are small, and with decent night-vision capabilities, they are mainly 720p HD.

Ring, on the other hand, has an entire line of indoor and outdoor cameras, many models of the Ring Doorbell camera, and in most cameras, the resolution of these cameras is 1080p HD and they have excellent night mode.

Mobile App: Mostly Equal Footing

ADT
1. Allows you to control your home security as well as integrated home automation.
2. Requires additional apps to do different tasks
3. Users complain that the app can be buggy after each update.

Ring
1. Control and monitor the security system through the app.
2. Cloud storage for video recordings.
3. Some users complain that the app is unstable after.

The issue with applications is that they’re always not quite what you’re looking for and for both the ADT and the Ring apps, that seems to be the case. Although both have great features, such as cloud storage and the ability to display and record on demand, once a new version of the app is released, they both still seem to be quite buggy.

The ability to do all in one app is where the Ring vs ADT diverge. All take place in the Ring app since Ring is Ring and doesn’t do much more than protection. ADT does, however, provide some home automation integration, and so there are numerous activities that include multiple apps (and even web-based log-in occasionally). This is less than ideal, but if a professionally monitored device is what you’re after, it is not a deal-breaker.

Final Decision

If you’re searching for a new home protection device and you’re not sure which one is better, Ring Vs ADT is likely to be the solution, depending on your preferences. ADT provides an outstanding system, but installation fees, long-term contracts, and higher monthly costs are available. However, you will find that the equipment is perfectly adequate for keeping your home and family safe for that cost, and you will get some additional choices in the Ring system that are not available.

Ring, on the other hand, is certainly planned without a long-term contract for the DIYer who is looking for a simple entry into home security. There are some monthly upfront costs, but the equipment you buy belongs to you and is more compact than an ADT device, and there are much lower monthly monitoring costs. The monitoring in the Ring system is, sadly, not as effective as the monitoring in the ADT system, so that’s something to keep in mind.
